How Credit Unions Help Move Alabama Forward
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives owned by and operated for the benefit of the members they serve. Credit unions provide resources to their members and families to help them obtain financial well-being. This includes improving financial education, food security, housing security, and more. Learn how Alabama credit unions are working to achieve this mission from Alabama Credit Union President/CEO Steve Swofford.

I am a Vietnam Veteran and due to injuries I received, I had to have a revision surgery. I had to file bankruptcy due to the medical expenses and the medication wasn’t covered by insurance. Alabama Teachers Credit Union stood side by side with me and my family to help us get through the tough times. Alabama Teacher’s Credit Union believed in me when it was difficult to believe in myself. They are a loyal and dependable friend.
I became an ATCU member after switching from a large bank that liked to charge all kinds of fees just to have an account with them. I stayed because I felt like part of the family. When I need something, I talk to a real human on the phone. When I go into my local branches, they know me by name and are happy to help. The best money decision I ever made was to become a member.
I chose ATCU because I’ve had several bad experiences with our local banks. My mother suggested I open an account here, so I finally took her advice. To this day, I’ve had nothing but good overall services from ATCU. My only regret is that I didn’t join much sooner!
