Advancing Communities - In the Volunteer Tradition

Credit unions are the better choice for Tennessee's middle-class families. They work to help Tennesseans build their dreams, keep their homes, start and expand small businesses, and hold their communities together.

Tennessee credit unions are local community-based not-for-profit financial cooperatives that are owned and run by their members. Local credit unions keep money in our communities instead of shipping profits to Wall Street and they share earnings with their members by providing dividends and lower rates on loans along with higher interest on savings.

They support members in times of need with low-interest loans for medical emergencies, more options to help families pay for college or buy a home and with financial literacy programs to empower consumers to improve their financial lives.

Tennessee Credit Unions are woven into the communities they serve across our great state. They are your neighbors, friends, and fellow citizens with one goal: Advance Tennessee Communities. The Volunteer Tradition is strong within the credit union movement and each credit union member is a part of our story.

As part of our commitment to Advancing Tennessee Communities, the Tennessee Credit Union League presents The Plan to Advance Tennessee Communities in The Volunteer Tradition.

1. Access to quality broadband for all Tennesseans
The past year has shown us that now more than ever, every Tennessean needs access to a reliable internet connection. Life is digital and everything moves at a faster pace. Being able to access school, work, household needs, shopping, etc. online is more important than ever. Financial services are no exception. In a recent poll, TCUL found that members desire to use online banking features rather than visit a credit union branch. The TCUL supports expanding broadband access and ensuring a reliable connection for every Tennessean.

2. Better access to capital for small businesses in Tennessee Communities
Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. Tennessee credit unions have proudly supported our small businesses in many ways. Many credit unions recently participated in the Paycheck Protection Program to provide access to much needed forgivable loans to make ends meet. We provide access to financial services and work with each individual business as a member of the credit union for solutions that work for them.

3. Access to high-quality financial services bringing financial health and wellness for all Tennesseans
Financial health and wellness shouldn’t be reserved for any one group of people. The TCUL believes that each Tennessean deserves access to high-quality financial services and financial education to meet their needs. Tennessee credit unions work daily with their members to find solutions to meet their members' financial goals. Our members know they can count on their credit union to help them fulfill their financial dreams.
